The Garaway High girls and boys captured team titles at the Inter-Valley Conference Cross Country Championships contested on the campus of Cambridge High School on Saturday.
In the girls' meet, Garaway had five runners in the top seven and scored 17 points as only three teams fielded enough runners to compete for the title. Sandy Valley was second with 50 and East Canton was third with 55.
Garaway's Rachel Wentworth won the girls' individual title in 18:52, with teammate Anna Havranek in second place (19:35) and Strasburg's Amanda King taking third (19:59).
Ridgewood had two girls compete --Jessica McCoun was 10th (21:51) and Tea Boyer was 35th (27:19).
In the boys' meet, Garaway again dominated with the top four runners and a total of 20 points. Sandy Valley (62) was second followed by East Canton (110), Newcomerstown (116), Malvern (131), hiland (157), Tuscarawas Catholic (166) and Ridgewood (174).
Alex Shrock of Garaway prevailed in the boys' race in 16:12, just two seconds ahead of Strasburg's Luke Myers (16:14). Garaway's Blake Yoder was third (16:33).
Leading Newcomerstown and gaining all-IVC first team honors was Nate Marinucci, who finsihed seventh in 17;26. Other Trojans who figured in the team total were Garret Mozena (17th, 18:24); Daniel Lovrinic (33rd, 19:52); Collen Mozena (37th, 19:55) and Alex Nay (41st, 20:11).
Ridgewood's top five runners were Travis Vickers (20th, 18:53); Dakota Crites (38th, 19:55); Brandon Fyock (50th, 22:08); Nathan Schwartz (51st, 22:09) and Jared Michael (52nd, 22:16).
