COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The father of a murder victim says he forgives the man who fatally shot his son last year at a central Ohio cemetery.

Prosecutors said 21-year-old Akeem Johnson was running away from a fight in June when Dasean Battle chased him on a bicycle and shot him down. A judge in Columbus sentenced Battle on Monday to life in prison with a chance for parole after 23 years.

The 21-year-old Battle had previously pleaded guilty to aggravated murder.

Investigators say Battle was angry with Johnson for flirting with his girlfriend online.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that Johnson's father, Claiborne Johnson, told Battle in court that he has forgiven him.

Battle's attorney said Battle made a "terrible decision" in shooting Johnson in a moment of rage.
