Teachers Are Tops
Two Newcomerstown Middle School seventh grade students recently had their entries selected as two of the eight winners in the Teachers Are Tops essay contest sponsored by First National Bank of Dennison, and WTUZ Radio 99.9 FM.
Adam Lenhoff, son of Jack and Sally Lenhoff, chose to write his essay about Mrs. Kelly Addy, his third grade teacher at West Elementary School, and Sarah Gamble, daughter of Paul and Stephanie Gamble, used her words to honor her sixth grade ELA teacher at NMS, Mrs. Shelley Cline.
These teachers, along with six others from area schools, were honored at a special reception on National Teachers Day, May 6.
Students of the Month
Congratulations to Braiden Guy for being nominated as the Sixth grade Student of the Month by his teachers! The Sixth Grade Team had numerous positive comments to share about their star student for May, because he is a conscientious student, who is determined to be successful. Braiden always completes his assignments to the best of his ability, turns them in on time, and is an excellent role model for his classmates to follow. Braiden, son of Jeremy Guy and Lori Guy, said World History is his favorite class this year because he finds most of the things they are learning about very interesting.
If he were principal, Braiden would shorten the core class periods to 45 minutes each, and make lunch periods and Related Arts classes longer. Braiden's hobbies include playing basketball and video games. Some fun facts about Braiden are that he has one dog named Max, and he doesn't feel he could go on living without him; his favorite meal is creamed chicken over biscuits; the last move he watched was "Frozen"; his all-time favorite book is Mockingjay; his favorite celebrity is Adam Sandler; his worst fear is tornadoes; and if invisible, he would enjoy scaring his friends. The best piece of advice Braiden has received thus far came from Coach Bonamico and his parents, who have all told him, "Input equals output," which means you get out of it what you put into it. So far in his life, Braiden feels his greatest achievement has been making the honor roll all year, and in the future, he hopes to go to college to become an engineer.
Tanner Norman, son of David and Kristy Norman, was chosen by his teachers to be the Seventh grade Student of the Month for May for several reasons. He takes his schoolwork seriously, participates well in groups, and willingly helps others. Tanner is an asset to our school and his teachers enjoy having him in their classes. As his favorite class this year, Tanner lists science, because students get to do projects which are really fun, and he feels some of his strengths are math, world history and track. Among his hobbies/extracurricular activities are being a member of the NMS track team and playing video games. If he were principal, Tanner would declare every Friday as Skittle Day, when students could eat Skittles candies the entire school day.
Some fun facts about Tanner are that he has two pet dogs, named Mobley and Sassy; his favorite meal is pizza; the last movie he saw was "Frozen"; his all-time favorite book is Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief; his favorite celebrity is Adam Sandler; his worst fear is tornadoes; and he doesn't feel he could live without his family, dogs and friends.
The best piece of advice he's received came from his mother, who told him, "Do what you love." Tanner feels his greatest achievement so far has been placing 1st in the hurdles, and in the future, he hopes to become a movie producer.
