WEST LAFAYETTE -- Buckeye Trail High opened the 2015 golf season on a winning note, scoring a narrow 398-401 victory over Newcomerstown at Hickory Flats Golf Course on Thursday.

Trail's Evan Archer earned medalist honors with an 18-hole total of 82, one shot better than teammate Will Davis. Rounding out the scores for Coach Mike Castello's Warriors were Jacob Markel with a 98 and Hugh McPeek with a 135.

For Newcomerstown, Thurman Gibson was the low man with a 95 followed by Bailey Guy (100)), Tance Brandon (103) and Ryan Popadak (103).

SUGARCREEK -- Meadowbrook High captured a fourth place finish in the 17 team Garaway Pirate Golf Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Willandale Golf Course.

Host Garaway took first place with a score of 306, followed by Wellington (314), Columbus Academy (315) and the Colts who checked in with 320. Hiland rounded out the top five with a total of 323. Other local teams in action were Newcomerstown with 445 and Ridgewood with a score of 346.

Trey Singleton led the Colts with a round of 75, followed by Devin Webster with 80, Zach Clair shot 82 and Taylor Gander finished at 83.

Newcomerstown's scores were Bailey Guy with 105, Thurman Gibson (107), Tance Brandon (116) and Rylan Popadak (117).
