Division II Boys' Sectional

at River Greens Golf Course

WEST LAFAYETTE -- A pair of local teams enjoyed good days at the Division II Sectional Golf Tournament hosted by River Greens Golf Course with both the Ridgewood High Generals and Indian Valley Braves advancing to district level competition.

The top eight teams along with the top eight individuals from the sectional advanced to the district tournament on Monday which will again be hosted by River Greens Golf Course.

Taking first place in the sectional team standings was Garaway with a score of 298, with Tusky Valley runner-up at 311. John Glenn (314) was third and Meadowbrook (327) fourth followed by Coshocton (327), Ridgewood (328), Minerva (330), and Indian Valley (330).

Brent Rentsch led Indian Valley with 79, along with Michael Benamati 83, Jadan Hartzler 84, Jarrett Helter 88 and Dalton Burcher 89.

Ridgewood scores were Brice Dennis with 74, Benjamin Blakeley 83, Mason Waycaster 85, Adam Matusik 86 and Ryan Zinkon 94.

Individual district qualifiers were: Joel Shane (Martins Ferry) 76; Isaac Davidson (East Liverpool) 76; Joe Newlin (Beaver) 79; Jacob Feldner (Cambridge) 80; Alex Wright (Claymont) 81; Jake Moore (River View) 81; Kyle Daugherty (River View) 81; Blake Stubbins (West Muskingum) 81.


Division III Boys' Sectional

at Willandale Golf Club

SUGARCREEK -- In the Division III Boys' Sectional Tournament, which was postponed a day due to the weather, Newcomerstown High finished ninth with a team total of 423.

Levi Kilpatrick and Brandon Cutshall paced the Trojans each carding a 100. Others making up the team score were Tance Brandon with a 111 and Rylan Popadak who shot a 112.

Hiland (320), Strasburg-Franklin (326), Catholic Central (355), Malvern (359), River (369) and Bridgeport with a 374 team total were the six teams that earned a berth in the District Tournament Tuesday at Willandale Golf Club.

The six individuals, not on one of the qualifying teams to earn a spot at the District Tournament were Will Davis, Buckeye Trail (77); Dalton Palmer, Shadyside (86), Davey Wells, Barnesville (90), Ben Wagner, Fort Frye (90), Jacob Carpenter, Barnesville (96) and Ty Colombo of Tuscarawas Central Catholic with a 97 and won a four-hole playoff.

Matthew Neidenthal of Strasburg-Franklin was the match medalist firing a 76.

The Division III District Tournament will take place Tuesday at Willandale Golf Club.


Division II Girls' Sectional

at River Greens Golf Course

WEST LAFAYETTE -- In the Division II Girls' Golf Sectional Tournament Wednesday at River Greens Golf Course, the Indian Valley Lady Braves joined the Braves boys' team in advancing to the district by finishing third with a 397 team score. Ridgewood finished ninth with a 462 team total, but had two girls advance as individuals.

Garaway was the team winner with a 354 team score followed by Minerva (381), Indian Valley, Beaver Local (402) and John Glenn with a 419 team total.

The top five teams and top five individuals not on one of the qualifying teams advance to the District Tournament.

Pacing the Lady Braves of Indian Valley was Olivia Shaw who shot a 90 followed by Kiera Brown with a 95, Makayla Keathley with a 98 and Ashley Frye rounded out the team scoring with a 114 total.

Ridgewood was led by Samantha Wilson who finished fourth as an individual shooting a 85 followed by Sadie Wilson in sixth place individually with a 88. These two advance as individuals to the District Tournament. Others making up the team score were Bethany Shuck with a 128 and Tyra Reed carding a 161.

Besides Samantha and Sadie Wilson from Ridgewood, other individuals advancing were Makayla Lewellen of Maysville (85), Kia Happakoski of River View (93) and Carley Henry of Claymont with a 96.

Newcomerstown's Kayla Gibson carded a 121 competing as an individual.

Ashleigh Rothacher of Garaway was the match medalist with a 78.

The Lady Braves and the Wilsons from Ridgewood will participate in the Division II District Tournament at River Greens Golf Course on Wednesday.
