BERLIN — Creativity flourishes inside Chestnut Ridge Sewing, 5079 Township Road 401, just three miles east of Berlin.
The sewing supplies and service shop, which has been in business since the mid-1980s, just celebrated its 34th anniversary with a special sale earlier this month, said owner Dawn Krier.
But if customers missed that sale, not to worry. The "Big Bernina Thank You Sale" begins in September, where customers can purchase two presser feet and get one free, Krier said. A promotional 25 percent off embroidery hoops will also be included.
Founded in 1893, Bernina is a Swiss manufacturer of sewing and embroidery systems. Chestnut Ridge Sewing is an accredited Bernina retailer.
The shop is running a Bernina trade-up promotion through Sept. 30, where a new machine can be purchased for zero percent interest for 60 months. Three models will be included in the sale: the B 880 Plus, B 790 Plus and the B 770 QE.
The August accessory of the month is a magnifying attachment, which makes it easier to see in tricky places, and can be purchased at 25 percent off until Aug. 31. The September accessory of the month is an Edgestitch Foot #10, also for 25 percent off until Sept. 30. This accessory is ideal for topstitching edges, pleats or hems and is great for sewing on lace or ribbon.
Chestnut Ridge Sewing will also be one of the sponsors for the Ohio Amish Country Quilt Festival, Krier said. The festival runs Sept. 5-7 at the Mount Hope Event Center, 8076 State Route 241. This is one of their biggest events of the year, Krier said. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $5 or at the door for $7.
In addition to their ongoing sales and specials, Chestnut Ridge Sewing also offers classes to all sewers regardless of skill level, Krier said.
"Supply lists are outlined online and if a student doesn’t have a machine, they can use one of ours," she said.
Upcoming classes included a Bernina serger class on Aug. 20, a poppin bag class on Aug. 21, and a class on circle rulers on Aug. 22.
All class supplies are offered at a 15 percent discount to students during the duration of the class.
Chestnut Ridge Sewing also offers service on all makes and models of machines, Krier said. The machine maintenance side of things is run by Mike Miller, shop manager, who has 26 years of experience with Chestnut Ridge Sewing, Krier said.
