GateHouse Media’s growth in Ohio has led to the hiring of a new sales leader to guide the company’s efforts to help local businesses grow.

Kelly Tremaine recently began work as vice president of sales for GateHouse Media Ohio, including The Daily Jeffersonian and, seven other daily media sites, numerous weekly publications and websites. He’s charged with uniting sales efforts between five media sites which joined GateHouse early in 2017 and three others the company already owned.

"Having Kelly on our team increases our ability to leverage the resources of our national company in reaching engaged audiences, offering a sophisticated marketing toolbox and delivering integrated business acquisition solutions for local marketers," GHMO President Bill Albrecht said. "Kelly brings a track record of delivering results and building solid teams that take care of their customers."

Based in Kent, Tremaine also will focus heavily on rolling out GateHouse’s extensive digital marketing programs, including targeted advertising.

Tremaine said GateHouse’s OnTarget program has partnerships established with major national websites, such as ESPN, CNN, the Weather Channel and others, that can help local advertisers target local readers using those sites. Advertisers can target a specific demographic within a ZIP code or nationwide, he said.

"I’ll also be working with the Northeast Ohio group to create synergies and increase sales production," he said.

To meet that goal and offer regional rather than paper-specific advertising solutions, Tremaine said he plans to create a better framework for communications among GateHouse’s northeast Ohio offices.

"We do some of this now, but it’s not done as efficiently as it could be," he said. "Our main priority is cross-selling by providing better and advanced solutions while having better communications across channels."

Tremaine also plans to develop additional promotions and a more comprehensive selection of products for clients to choose from.

"There should be more advertising opportunities for the advertisers," he said. "Hopefully, it will be a more seamless opportunity that’s brought to them."

Tremaine comes to GateHouse from the East Coast where he most recently worked for Sun Media Group out of Rhode Island. He also spent 14 years with Tribune Media at the Hartford Courant and worked for the New York Times Co. in Florida.

He said he looks forward to "the challenge of working in a new position, the challenge of lifting sales for a group, trying different things and working with new people."

GateHouse Media Ohio has offices in Kent, Canton, Alliance, Massillon, Cambridge, Dover, New Philadelphia, Ashland and Wooster markets.
