Kindergarten registration make-up day

If you missed kindergarten registration in April, you can still register your child on May 28 here at East School. You will need to bring the child's Social Security card, birth certificate, shot records and any custody papers, if applicable. This will be by appointment only. Call East School at 498-6601 to schedule a time.

NERS barbecue, car show

The Newcomerstown Fire Department's annual chicken barbecue and car show will be Saturday, July 4 with car registration being taken until noon. There is a $10 registration fee. Chicken dinners, which costs $7, will be served from noon to 6 p.m. at the David Barber Civic Center, Newcomerstown.

Baked steak 'Relay' benefit

A baked steak dinner will take place at April's Country Kitch'n to benefit Relay For Life on Sunday, May 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $6 per person. The menu includes baked steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables, dessert and a beverage. Carry-out will also be available. There will be a raffle held with drawings done every 30 minutes that day.

Anniversary celebration

Sally's Hilltop will celebrate their second anniversary in their newly-remodeled location at 1958 Post Boy Rd., Newcomerstown, on Saturday, May 23. There will be a chicken barbecue starting at 11 a.m. The meal will include half chicken, baked potato, baked beans and bread for $8. There will also be Amish baked goods, Amish basketmaker and hundreds of all-new Disney items.

Blood drive

There will be a Newcomerstown community blood drive on Wednesday, May 20 from noon to 6 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Newcomerstown. To schedule an appointment, call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE.

The Genealogy Club of Newcomerstown will meet May 21 at noon at April's Country Kitch'n in Newcomerstown. After lunch, they will go to the Newcomerstown Public Library.

Breakfast canceled

STONE CREEK -- The Jefferson Grange breakfast on Saturday May 23 is canceled due to Memorial Day weekend.

There will be a pancake and sausage breakfast on June 27 from 8 to 11 a.m. A free-will donation is welcome.

Also that day, there will be a flea market at the former Jefferson Grange building from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Pediatric orthopedic clinic

DOVER -- There will be a pediatric orthopedic clinic to evaluate bone or joint problems in the hips, legs or feet for children ages 0 to 21. The clinic is Wednesday, May 27 at the Tuscarawas County Health Department, 897 E. Iron Ave., Dover.

Newcomerstown TOPS OH No. 1378 meets every Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church, 648 Oak St., Newcomerstown. Weigh-in is from 5:15 to 6 p.m. with the meeting to start at 6:15 p.m.

U.S. Census workers

The News has learned that U.S. Census Bureau workers may be or have been in the village of Newcomerstown requesting information from residents. The Newcomerstown Police Department wanted residents to be aware.

Walkers welcome

The Newcomerstown High School hallways are available for anyone interested in walking in the mornings from 5 to 7 a.m. The Beaver Street doors will be unlocked at 5 a.m.

East School seeks volunteers

The Newcomerstown East Elementary School is looking for volunteers from the community to come in and help with teachers and students. Volunteers would be helping with AR tests, clerical items, etc. Call 498-6601 or stop by the East School office for more information.

Sonshine Boxes drop-off

Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Newcomerstown is a collection site for items to be sent to soldiers serving our country. Sonshine Boxes consist of anything a soldier might need such as personal hygiene items, games, movies, etc.
