Fire destroys mobile home

The cause of a fire early Jan. 24, just outside of Newcomerstown, remained under investigation. The fire destroyed a mobile home owned by Wayne Haines at 6831 Buckhorn Rd. SW, Newcomerstown.

Firefighters from the Stone Creek Fire Department were dispatched at 1 a.m. after a 911 call alerted officials of the fire.

One individual was injured when he tried to put out the fire with a bucket of water prior to firefighters arrival. He, reportedly, suffered second and third degree burns on his left hand. He was treated at Union Hospital in Dover.

Upon arrival, firefighters saw fire blowing out of three windows.

Three dogs escaped the fire, however, one dog later succumbed to injuries sustained during the fire.

The Stone Creek Fire Department was assisted by firefighters from York Township, Newcomerstown, Delaware Valley (Port Washington) and Bakersville.

An investigator from the state fire marshal's office is assisting with the investigation.
