On Jan. 20, the Newcomerstown Relay For Life Committee had a Relay Rally.

It was complete with purple and silver decorations to add to the festivities. The silver 25s were to commemorate the 25th year of Relay. Amy Miller and Brandi Frye planned the event. There were more than 75 people in attendance.

The evening included speaker Ronnie Roth, who spoke of her cancer journey; she is a two time cancer survivor.

Hayley Chaney started the evening by singing some songs. A video was played that explained what Relay was all about. There were many door prizes and some gifts for teams signing up. The RFL committee has set a goal of 10 new teams for 2009 and they encourage all past teams to attend the Relay Reunion to celebrate 25 years of HOPE!

The evening did yield two new teams in addition to the seven teams that have come on board since this Relay season started.

One excited team will be captained by Natalie Jones, she is a cancer survivor, and she is going to start a team of survivors! Wow! All survivors are invited to participate.

Another team yet to be named will be captained by Debbie and Danielle Henry. Danielle is an advocacy volunteer for the committee. She will be working with state legislators and lobbyists for ACS CAN to help with the access to care project.
