NEW PHILADELPHIA -- It is time for Dress-A-Child 2009! This year, more than ever, the needy children of Tuscarawas County will be depending on the generosity of countless strangers to help them purchase new clothes for school. Since its inception in 1970, Dress-A-Child has been operated entirely by volunteers. This means 100 percent of all donations go towards clothing purchases. Last year, this local charity supplied 1,707 children each with a $58 voucher for new clothes.

Registration for this year will be held the week of July 13 through July 17 at multiple sites across the county. Shopping dates will be Aug. 3 through 7. Dress-A-Child serves children from kindergarten through twelfth grade attending Tuscarawas County schools. Children must be entering kindergarten in the fall. Dress-A-Child will provide new school clothing for those who qualify through the registration process. As in previous years there will be no automatic qualifiers for program acceptance. Eligibility will be determined based on the federal poverty guidelines.

There are three different ways that anyone wanting to help this local charity clothe county children.

First, any cash donations received by Aug. 1 will be included in the 2009 voucher amount. All contributions should be made payable to Dress-A-Child and sent to Becky Mastin, 1210 Winkler Drive, Dover, OH 44622.

Second, volunteers are always needed to help with registration in July and shopping in August. Third, July is Dress-A-Child month. Encourage the groups to which you belong to donate monies to the program.
