The status of Newcomerstown Police Chief Tim Miller, dispatcher Dana Miller and Assistant Police Chief David Watson will be discussed when village council meets Sept. 21.

According to a press release issued by Newcomerstown Mayor Steven B. Guy, the decision regarding the outcome of Tim Miller, Dana Miller and Watson will not be discussed at the Sept. 7 council meeting, as previously stated.

Guy said the outcome will be decided at the Sept. 21 meeting.

The mayor suspended Tim Miller as police chief "immediately and indefinitely" with pay on July 24 as the result of allegations of misconduct levied against the near 15-year veteran of the Newcomerstown Police Department and others.

Miller was promoted to chief in December 2003.

An independent investigator was hired by Guy to investigate the allegations filed against Miller.

Newcomerstown council approved a contract with Executive Security Solution Inc. of Columbus to examine the allegations. The contract call for the company to receive $75 per hour while investigating the alleged misconduct.

Authorities declined to elaborate on the details of the allegations.

Mike Kennedy, a former member of the department, was hired as interim police chief on July 26 to lead the day-to-day operations.

Former Chief Brian Hursey and former Mayor Jim Carr have pledged assistance to help resolve the issues facing the police department at a recent village council meeting.
