Brode to serve as President Pro Tem of school boardThe Newcomerstown Board of Education approved Steve Brode as the President Pro Tem to serve as President of the board of education until a new one is elected at the January board meeting. The board set the January organizational meeting for Monday, Jan. 11 at 5 p.m. and the January 2010 regular board of education meeting for Monday, Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m. Both meetings will take place in the high school conference room. In other business, the school board:* Received a banner for the school district's "excellent" rating from the Ohio Department of Education.* Presented plaques to outgoing board of education members.* Approved the use of Lee Stadium, concession stands, the high school cafeteria for seating and evacuation purposes, if needed, for the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life on June 18-19, 2010.* Approved employment of Katherine Carruthers as the prom advisor for this school year.* The amended resolution regarding Courtney Hunt as junior high cheerleading advisor. The stipend will be split between Hunt and Carruthers.* Approved employment of Robert Rehard as seventh grade boys' basketball coach and Mario Lovrinic as freshmen boys' basketball coach. * Approved volunteers for the athletic department -- D. Jeffrey Burrier, freshmen boys basketball; David Harris, boys' basketball; and Zak Jones, girls' basketball.* Approved the resignation of Jack Lenhoff as high school cross country coach, effective immediately.* Accepted the donation of $242.51 from Moose Lodge No. 1337.* Approved the annual membership from the Ohio School Boards Association for Jan. 1, 2010, to Dec. 31, 2010, at a cost of $4,043.* Approved Dan Styer to serve on the Newcomerstown Library Board of Trustees.* Approved the wind turbine contract for the school system.
