The Cy Young Days Festival Committee has announced the rules for this year's royalty contest. Royalty includes queen, junior queen, princess, mini king and mini queen contests.
Judging and winners will be announced Tuesday, June 22 at 7 p.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church, River of Life Auditorium, 648 Oak St., Newcomerstown.
The goal behind the royalty contests is promote the Cy Young Days celebration and Cy Young Youth League. The purpose is to promote a positive and successful festival, as well as set a positive example for other young women, young girls and young boys.
All contestants must reside in the Newcomerstown Exempted Village School District or attend a Newcomerstown school (includes Buckeye Career Center).
Queen entries are for grades eleventh and twelfth of the 2009-2010 school year. Junior queen entries are for grades seventh through tenth of the 2009-2010 school year. For queen contests, all participants must wear a floor-length gown (age appropriate).
All contestants must have a sponsor and submit a $30 entry fee with the application that is non-refundable. All contestants must write a 300-word essay on one of the following subjects: Cy Young, Newcomerstown, Cy Young and Newcomerstown, and growing up in Newcomerstown and the impact or influence it has made on your life. All contestants must submit a 3X5 or 4X6 photo (head shot, not full body). Participants must complete an application that can be picked up at the high school offices with a parent or guardian signature.
Places awarded will be for the queen contest are: Queen, first and second place; and junior queen, first and second place.
Guidelines for the mini king (ages kindergarten through third grade) include: Participant must submit a photo no larger than a 4X6; must have a sponsor (parent, guardian or business or business person); must wear long pants, shirt and tie or suit (no shorts or jeans); and must submit a $10 application fee (non-refundable).
Rules for the mini queen (ages kindergarten through third grade) include: Participant must submit a photo no larger than a 4X6; must have a sponsor (parent, guardian or business or business person); must wear a dress (church appropriate or formal; no jeans, shorts or long pants); and must submit a $10 application fee (non-refundable).
Both the mini king and mini queen will be judged by a judging panel. The winners will be chosen by a drawing. All decisions will be final.
The following are the princess contest rules: Ages eligible are fourth through sixth grades; must submit a photo no larger than a 4X6; provide a $10 entry fee with name of sponsor (parent, guardian or business); must wear a dress (church appropriate or formal; no jeans, shorts or long pants); and provide a parent or guardian signature. Only one place will be awarded, no panel of judges. Selection will be made by random drawing. All decisions are final.
Applications may be picked up at any Newcomerstown School office. The deadline for applications is Friday, June 4.
