Only two Democratic candidates have filed petitions for the contested primary election in Newcomerstown May 3.
J. Earl McCormick, 648 Spaulding Ave., Newcomerstown, and James Friel, 600 Keiser Road, Newcomerstown, both filed petitions stating their intent to seek the party's nomination for the Mayoral position in the village.
The deadline for partisan candidates to file petitions for the primary election was 4 p.m. Feb. 2. Nonpartisan candidates have until Aug. 10.
However, petitions filed with the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections must still be certified before the candidates' names appear on the ballot.
Meanwhile in Coshocton County, Timothy L. France, 1680 Knob Hill Road, Coshocton, is seeking to be re-elected as judge for the Municipal Court. France filed his petition with the Coshocton County Board of Elections.
Mayor Steven D. Mercer, 801 Walnut St., Coshocton, seeks re-election to that position in May as well.
