The Newcomerstown Board of Education approved an uncertain five-year financial forecast at its meeting last Monday night.
The uncertainty lies with the state legislators and the state's biennial budget, according to Treasurer Dan Stocker.
He said the district will finish this school year and the next school in the "black" with no deficits expected. However, in the third, fourth and fifth years of the projected budget, the district will be in the "red" and have deficit spending.
In other business, the board awarded the lowest bid to Trail Plumbing of Millersburg for the renovation of the West Elementary School restrooms in the fourth and fifth grade section of the building. New water and wastewater lines will be installed, as well as the replacement of toilets and urinals, at a cost of $31,500. The restrooms are not working correctly and need to be replaced.
The project should be completed by the start of the 2011-2012 school year.
The board also approved:
* The Fall 2011 and Winter 2011-2012 athletic schedules.
* The resignation for retirement purposes for Gale Lenzo, Reading Intervention teacher, effective May 31; and Grace McKinney, fourth grade teacher, effective April 30.
* The employment of Desiree K. Welch as the Spanish/OGT Intervention teacher at Newcomerstown High School for the 2011-2012 school year.
The board of education will meet again Monday, June 13 at 6 p.m. at the high school.
