The 2011 Memorial Day Service in Newcomerstown, sponsored by the three organizations of the American Legion Post 431, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3303 and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 532, will take place at West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown, on Monday, May 30 at 11 a.m.

The Parade of Veterans will start about 10:45 a.m. on the road outside the main gate. All veterans are encouraged to come and march in with the Honor Guard leading the march followed by the Newcomerstown High School Marching Band, Scouts and others who wish to join in the march.

The Master of Ceremonies will be Dennis Belle. The invocation and benediction will be offered by the Rev. Eric E. Miller of the Calvary, Kings and Everals United Methodist churches. The student speaker will be Jacob Everhart, the son of Ed and Becky Everhart and a graduating senior at Newcomerstown High School.

The main speaker will be Danielle K. Casey, a 1984 graduate of Newcomerstown High School and a 1989 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. She served 10 years as a commissioned officer in the Air Force. She left the Air Force as a captain to become a biology teacher under the Troops to Teachers Program. She earned her master's degree in 2010 in biology from Kent State University, and teaches Biology and Forensics Science at River View High School. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Casey.

The Newcomerstown Band will play some selections during the service and the Newcomerstown Honor Guard will post the colors at the start of the service, fire a 21-gun salute and retire the colors at the end of the Memorial Day Service in honor of all the veterans who have served.

A dinner for all veterans and families will take place at the American Legion Post Home starting at 2 p.m.

All local citizens are invited to bring lawn chairs. In case of bad weather, the service will take place in the Newcomerstown Middle School Auditorium.
