Medi-Wise Pharmacy in Newcomerstown is hosting a mammovan for free mammograms and a Certified Nurse Practitioner to perform free pap tests Friday, April 13 and Friday, April 27 for women ages 40-64 who do not have insurance or are underinsured. Women who have insurance including women with Medicare may also schedule to receive a mammogram and have her insurance billed.

This free service is offered through a program called "Trinity Breast and Cervical Cancer Grant Program" and in conjunction with Mahoning Valley Imaging & the Tuscarawas County Health Department. Doctors advise women to have a yearly mammogram and pap tests starting at age 40 and earlier if they have a family history of breast cancer.

Eligibility for this program: Women qualify for a free mammogram and pap test if they are age 40-64 and their total household income is less than, or equal to, 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. The Federal Poverty Level is updated annually. The most recent requirements are below: Household size and total income must not exceed -- One, $22,300; two, $30,200; three, $38,100; four, $46,100; five, $54,000; six, $61,900; seven, $69,800; eight, $77,700; and for each additional person, $7,900.

Women who are younger than 40 may still qualify for a free mammogram if they have a close relative who has been diagnosed with breast cancer or if they have symptoms of breast cancer.

Uninsured and underinsured women are eligible for services through the program if they meet the income guidelines. Women over 65 are eligible for free mammograms through Medicare.
