DOVER -- The next driving refresher course for seniors is coming up in May at Union Hospital in Dover.

The program, co-sponsored by Union Hospital and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), will be Friday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members.

Register the program by visiting, click on "Health Events" or call the hospital's Community Relations office at 330-602-0778.

The class features a review of the rules of the road and tips on safely operating an automobile amid physiological changes that come with age, such as reduced night vision and diminished reaction time.

Other topics covered include defensive driving techniques, highway driving skills, understanding the effects of medication on your driving, and how to monitor the driving skills of yourself and those around you. No driving or written tests are given or required in conjunction with this program.

Some insurance companies offer discounts to those who complete this course. Discounts are normally extended over a three-year period; after that time, the driver must renew the certificate. It is best to check with your insurance agent to determine whether a discount applies.
