Ginny Riggs Faucette of Blairsville, Ga., recently visited Newcomerstown in search of information on some of her relatives who were former residents and business owners. Faucette said her family once owned an establishment called Riggs Drive-In that once located on the far end of North College Street, near old State Route 21. It was in business from the late 1940s to about 1951. Her parents were Virginia Ruth Hafner and Doyle Raymond Riggs. She said her grandparents, Charles and Alice Hafner, also owned a business on Main Street called Hafner's Cut Rate, believed to be located next door to Watts True Value, and was in business from the late 1940s to mid 1950s. Riggs is asking if anyone has any information or pictures they could share about these family members or their businesses to contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org or contact the Newcomerstown Historical Society Historian at 740-815-0649.
