SUGARCREEK -- The second annual Tuscarawas County Caregiver Appreciation Dinner will be Tuesday, Sept. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dutch Valley Restaurant in Sugarcreek, with registration beginning at 5 p.m.
This event is sponsored by several local agencies who want to acknowledge the contribution unpaid caregivers make to their community.
This is a free dinner for any unpaid caregiver caring for a friend, spouse, neighbor, parent, grandparent, disabled child or any relative. It is not for paid caregivers or for volunteer recognition.
There is no age requirement. The only requirement is the caregiver must reside in Tuscarawas County.
The person they are caring for may reside anywhere -- by themselves, with someone else or in a facility.
"The purpose behind this dinner is to let family caregivers know how much they are appreciated," said Laurel DuBeck, RN, Community Education coordinator with the Area Agency on Aging, Region 9. DuBeck goes on to say caregivers don't get the pat on the back they so richly deserve and this dinner is the communities way of thanking them for all they do.
Caregivers and one guest will be treated to a complimentary meal, entertainment, door prizes, relaxation stations and a wealth of information from exhibitors showcasing services that are available to caregivers to make the journey easier for them and the person they care for.
While this is a free event, registration is required. A caregiver and one guest may attend for free; additional guests will be $10 each. To make a reservation for this event contact Laurel at (800) 932-7277, ext. 4719, with your name, phone number and the names of those attending.
Also at this dinner, a caregiver will be chosen "Tuscarawas County Caregiver of the Year."
If you know a caregiver who has a unique story or goes above and beyond for the person they are caring for, call Laurel and ask for a nomination form.
All nominees receive their framed nomination and the person chosen Caregiver of the Year receives a framed certificate and a gift basket, compliments of Jarvis Law, in addition to their framed story.
Sponsors of this event are: The Area Agency on Aging, Region 9; Beacon Pointe, Crossroads Hospice, Community Hospice, and the Tuscarawas County Senior Center.
