The Newcomerstown Middle School is boasting a second consecutive year with an Ohio Department of Education rating of "excellent."

In the 2011-2012 school year, the staff and students met success in seven of the eight ODE criteria, passing Reading and Math in each of three grade levels.

The school performance index was calculated at 95.7 percent, the attendance rate was 95 percent, and we have been rated "Above Expected Growth" for our students for the last two years. This also means that the school has met "Adequate Yearly Progress" as measured by the Ohio Department of Education.

This success is not an accident. The staff, parents and students have focused themselves on student learning and doing what is best for the children. They continue to follow a Professional Learning Community Model, where teachers work in teams to strive to best educate our students. Each student at Newcomerstown Middle School follows a schedule that creates one-hour blocks of time for Math, Science, English Language Arts and Social Studies per day. This is supported by courses in Music/Band, Computer, Physical Education/Health and Fine Arts.

Those who are part of Newcomerstown Middle School strive each day to create the best educational situation for the students of Newcomerstown.
