NEW PHILADELPHIA -- Hunters, hikers and others who enjoy spending time outdoors will want to attend an Ohio State University Extension program about deer ticks on Nov. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. a the Buckeye Career Center in New Philadelphia.

Deer ticks, also known as black-legged ticks, have been confirmed in several Ohio counties, are likely to be found in Tuscarawas County, and have the potential to spread Lyme Disease. These ticks also have the ability to survive winter conditions and be active when most people don't think about looking for ticks. Dr. Glen Needham, Ohio State University Extension Entomology specialist, will discuss the tick and ways people who spend time outdoors can stay safe.

While there is no costs for the program, pre-registration is requested by Nov. 6 and can be done by contacting the Tuscarawas County office of Ohio State University Extension at 330-339-2337.
