NEW PHILADELPHIA -- The end of the year is fast approaching and the United Way of Tuscarawas County has reached only 81 percent of the organization's $565,000 goal.
According to 2012 Campaign Chair Bob Smith, "Raising the remaining funds is crucial to maintaining our health & human service programs here in Tuscarawas County."
The following agencies rely on United Way funding for many of their local programs: American Red Cross Muskingum Lakes Chapter, Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio, Harbor House, Personal & Family Counseling Services, Salvation Army, Society for Equal Access Independent Living Center, Tuscarawas Clinic for the Working Uninsured, Tuscarawas County Council for Church & Community (T-4-C), and the Tuscarawas County YMCA.
"One gift can do so much good," said United Way President Alison Kerns, "when you give to the United Way your contribution is spread out to support people at risk throughout our community."
People receiving the help may not always realize that the services were made possible by the United Way.
According to Kerns, "Many people are surprised to learn that the gasoline voucher, utility payment, or rent assistance their family received from a local agency was actually covered by the United Way.
If you have not made your contribution to the United Way this year it is not too late. Tax-deductible contributions for 2012 can still be made through Dec. 31.
Donations can be mailed to the United Way of Tuscarawas County at 1458 5th Street NW, New Philadelphia, OH; or visit the United Way website at www.tuscunitedway.org to make an online gift.
