December Students of the Month
Seventh grade teachers nominated Thurman Gibson as its Student of the Month for December because he behaves in class and works well with others.
He also is very conscientious about getting his schoolwork completed on time. Thurman, son of Ben and Angie Gibson, said his favorite class this is year is history because his teacher, Mrs. Jennifer Baker, is funny, and he feels that one of his strengths is his sense of smell. In his spare time, Thurman enjoys golf, baseball and football, and thinks the best thing about Newcomerstown Middle School is band class with Mr. Joel Hillwig. Some fun facts about Thurman are that he has two pets, a cat named Snow and a dog named Angel, his favorite meal is ribs with baked potato, the last movie he saw was "Rise of the Guardians," and he feels he could not live without his Kindle Fire. The best advice Thurman ever received came from his mom who told him that "The best things are the little things." So far, Thurman thinks his greatest accomplishment has been to beat a high school student in golf, and in the future, he hopes to be on the PGA tour.
Sam Kirker, eighth grade son of Jane Kirker and Tim Kirker, was chosen by his teachers to be its December Student of the Month because he is a very intelligent young man. He is a scholar-athlete, managing his time in order to be successful in both school and sports. His teachers really love and appreciate the way Sam is willing to help his peers when they are struggling with a concept. He is always on task and willing to participate in class discussions. Sam is a great leader in his class, and his favorite class this year is Art, because he gets to be creative with colors. In his spare time, Sam enjoys playing sports and Xbox, and he feels that one of his strengths is his "smartness". He thinks that the best thing about Newcomerstown Middle School is his fellow students, and feels that so far in life his greatest accomplishment has been getting a new belt in karate. Some fun facts about Sam are that he has two pets (a little black poodle named Bella, and a German Shepherd named Duke); his favorite meal is either cereal or Chips-A-Hoy cookies; his all-time favorite book is "My Side of the Mountain;" the last movie he saw was "The Help;" his favorite expression is "If you aren't first, you're last;" and says he could not live without love from his fellow students. Sam feels the best advice he's ever received came from his dad who told him to "try hard at everything." In the future, Sam hopes to be successful.
(Note: Sixth grade Student of the Month for December was Sarah Romer, who has already been recognized in The News.)
