FatherTime, a program that helps fathers and father figures build a stronger relationship with their children, will begin Feb. 25 and continue through April 1 at the Christ United Methodist Church, 648 Oak St., Newcomerstown.

The program is open to all fathers or father figures. Even though the program is sponsored by Harcatus Head Start and the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood, men do not need to be Head Start fathers to participate.

All they need is the desire to be a positive influence in a child's life and the willingness to commit to six meetings.

FatherTime will meet each Monday evening from 5:30 to 8 p.m. with both dads and their children present. Sessions begin with a meal provided by the host, Christ United Methodist Church.

Following the meal, children spend approximately one and one quarter hours with two teen mentors and the early childhood educator, while the dads discuss parenting related issues presented in the nationally-recognized curriculum, "24:7 DAD."

During the last segment of the evening, dads and children are brought together for directed activities and play time.

All of this is free. In addition, each dad will receive a $10 gas card each time he attends the FatherTime meeting.
