NEW PHILADELPHIA -- Students at Buckeye Career Center have finished their district and statewide competitions with eight students advancing to their respective national competitions.

The National Business Professionals of America (BPA) Convention was May 8 through May 12 in Orlando, Fla. Kyle Mizer, a senior in Computer Technology/Network Systems (Tuscarawas Valley), placed first in Ohio in Computer Security. Jabin Sinkovich, also a senior in Computer Technology/Network Systems, (New Philadelphia), placed fifth in Network Administration using Cisco. Taylor Herron, a senior in Medical Office Assisting (New Philadelphia) placed second in Medical Office Procedures.

In the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) state competition Kayla Morrison (New Philadelphia) and Paige Pulliam (Dover) received a gold medal in the team category of Advocacy. They are in the Teaching Professions program and their National Convention will be in Nashville, Tenn., July 5 through July 11.

Finally, from the SkillsUSA state competition, Buckeye produced three gold medalists finishing top in their contest. Stacey Toney, a Commercial Truck Technology senior (Newcomerstown), placed first in Diesel Equipment. Matthew Bair, an Industrial Electricity junior (Fairless) placed first in Electrical Construction and Garrett Thompson, a Construction Technology senior, (Tuscarawas Valley) placed first in Carpentry. The SkillsUSA National Convention will be held June 23-29 in Kansas City, Mo.
