NEW PHILADELPHIA -- The 4-H Health and Safety Speaking Contest took place June 18 at JIM's Place in New Philadelphia.
The local results of the contest are as follows.
Junior Division (under 14 as of Jan. 1):
First Place - Clayton Sprowl of Port Washington, member of Red Rock Rebels, title of talk "Drowning: No Water Needed"
Senior Division (14 and over as of January 1)
First Place - Taylor Sprowl of Port Washington, member of Red Rock Rebels, title of talk "Your Stressy-Messy Life"
Third Place - Amanda Fowler of Port Washington, member of Thunder Valley Pioneers, title of talk "Safety First, Even on the Farm"
First Place - Red Rock Rebels 4-H Club, members: Abigail Adams of Port Washington, Andrew and Brad Haun of Gnadenhutten, and Clayton and Taylor Sprowl of Port Washington. Title of skit - "The Wonderful Wizard of Weather"
Fourth Place - Stonecreek Peas & Carrots 4-H Club, members: Cody Kretzinger of Stone Creek, Jacob McGlumphy of Stone Creek, Chase and Mackenzie Pollock of New Philadelphia, and Maddie Pollock of New Philadelphia. Title of skit - "Bus Bully Rap"
Fifth Place - 4-H Griffins 4-H Club, members: Xenia Baker of New Philadelphia, McKenzie Morrison of Gnadenhutten, Kelly Parson of Dover, and Haley Schreiner of Port Washington. Title of skit - "The Diary of a Campfire Flunky"
The first and second place winners in the Junior Division, Senior Division, and Skit will compete at the Area 2 Health and Safety Speaking Contest at OARDC Fisher Auditorium in Wooster on July 8.
Trophies for the contest were donated by the Tuscarawas County 4-H Committee. Judges were Debbie Crank, Michelle Evans, Patty Maag, and Tammy Stockert.
