The 2013 Newcomerstown Relay For Life would like to say thank you to all survivors, caregivers, returning teams, new teams, local businesses, sponsors, and the entire community and surrounding communities for another great Relay For Life.
On Friday, June 14 to Saturday, June 15 Relay For Life, an 18-hour walk to raise money for the American Cancer Society, took place at Lee Stadium. The night was spent celebrating our cancer survivors and caregivers as well as remembering those we have lost. The theme this year was "A Cure for all Seasons." Activities at the event included a bounce house, a 100-foot slip and slide, a silent auction, Trick-or-Treating, pictures with Santa, breakfast with the Easter Bunny, an egg drop from the NERS ladder truck, and may other fun activities. Thank you to everyone that came out and supported Relay.
Awards earned at the event included: Best Campsite, Medi-Wise Pharmacy; Best Banner, Kings Church; Best Educational Message, Medi-Wise Pharmacy; Most Spirited Team, Cat's Warriors; Rockin' Rookie, St. John's Worship & Praise Community Church; Golden Pillow, Cat's Warriors; Early Bird Award, Arch's Army; Most Creative Fundraiser, Give a Little Bliss; Miss Relay, Roger Seitz; and Heart of Relay, Jennifer Baker.
Overall, the event raised over $50,000. Top fundraising honors went to Newcomerstown Middle School for raising $8,375.08, which was the Platinum fundraising level. Gold Fundraising Level teams included Baker's IGA and Kings Church. Silver fundraising level teams included Arch's Army, St. Paul Lutheran, Kurz Kasch Local 667L, Give a Little Bliss, Team 31 and Medi-Wise Pharmacy. Bronze fundraising level teams included Newcomerstown High School, Cat's Warriors, and St. Paul UCC. Rising Star Teams included Shaw Family and Friends and Team Committee.
Thank you to everyone that has been on our Relay For Life Committee, had a team, joined a team or supported one of our many fundraisers. We are always amazed by the support of the community. We have once again seen a great deal of support from businesses and individuals. Relay would not be possible without you. The fight against cancer is something we must take up together. Thank you for helping us make our world a better place, with early detection, prevention and treatment of cancer. Together, we must fight back against cancer.
