A Kimbolton man awaits sentencing after he was found guilty in Guernsey County Common Pleas Court Thursday in connection with a fatal crash earlier this year.

Judge David Ellwood is scheduled to sentence Thomas D. Nugent, 29, on Oct. 15, following his conviction on charges of tampering with evidence, failure to stop following an accident, failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead and misdemeanor vehicular homicide.

Nugent was acquitted of a charge of aggravated vehicular homicide.

According to reports, shortly after midnight on April 13 Nugent collided with a four-wheeler towing a riding mower on Old 21 Road near the intersection with Route 541. Teenaged boys operated both.

Brandon Pethtel, 14, died later that day from his injuries. The second boy sustained serious injuries.

Nugent fled the scene, officials said. A tip led to his arrest the following day, and his damaged automobile was located in a barn a short distance from the crash site.
