A 12-inch main water line break last Wednesday, caused Newcomerstown Schools and businesses to be closed, a boil order enacted and the village instructed to conserve water.
According to Mayor Jim Friel, the main water line break occurred around 10 a.m. after it was discovered that a main line that supplies the two water tanks had broke. The line is located on Cricket Hill, between the water tank and US 36.
"Water is still being supplied to the town, but some residents will experience low to no water pressure," Mayor Friel said. "We are asking the residents to conserve water and the whole village is under a boil alert as a safety precaution. With the location of the break, it will take time to repair the break."
Sporting events, including a Newcomerstown girls' varsity volleyball match and eighth grade football game, were canceled.
