Buckeye's Best had four teams compete in the AAU National Cross Country Championships in Augusta, Ga., at Fort Gordon Army base. The team had 17 national All-Americans. The boys junior high team placed second, the girls junior high team third, the varsity boys team fourth and the varsity girls team fifth. They finished as the second-best performing combined team at nationals. "We would like to thank all the athletes, parents and the individual coaches of each athlete for allowing us this great opportunity to be the host coaches," said head coach Jack Fluharty, who also coaches the Indian Creek cross country teams. "It was a great experience that I am happy to say we will try to repeat again next year." Team members are, not in order, along with head coach Fluharty (right) and assistant Matt Morrow, Brittney Roth (Newcomerstown), Sydnie Destifanes (Shadyside), Lydia Healy (Buckeye Local), Lindsey Leatherman (Wadsworth), Mackenzie Scott (Minerva), Sophia Ferrelli (Shadyside), Madison Walker (Batavia), Kenadee Wayt (Linsly), Ireland Wayt (Linsly), Jamie Truchan (Martins Ferry), Aubrey Snider (Union Local), Megan Bateman (Union Local), Danelle Stoner (Bellaire), Zoe Weaver (Indian Creek), Matt Lucas (Gateway), Cole Crites (Fairview), Austin Johnson (Fairview), Luke Brown (Sheridan), Nick Miller (Wadsworth), Zachary Banks (St. Clairsville), Jacob Bishop (Martins Ferry), Brett Bell (Meadowbrook), Kyle Weaver (Indian Creek), Allen Keister (Indian Creek), Kevin Simpson (St. Clairsville) and Tanner Wise (Indian Creek). The top finishers were: Lindsey Leatherman (7th place 13-14 girls), Luke Brown (10th, 15-18), Jamie Truchan (18th, 15-18 age group) and Brett Bell (34th, 15-18).
