The Newcomerstown Exempted Village Board of Education approved April 28 the resignation of a middle school teacher who is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student. Her resignation is effective May 23.

The board placed Amanda L. Armstrong, 37, of Plainfield, on paid administrative leave on March 26 and directed her to remain off school grounds.

According to a report filed with the Newcomerstown Police Department on March 25, Armstrong is suspected of pandering obscenity involving a minor, which is a felony.

No charges had been filed, according to Newcomerstown Police Chief Gary Holland.

Chief Holland said no charges have been filed against Armstrong for two reasons. One, it could be a jurisdictional issue between the police department and Coshocton County Sheriff's Office and the second, officials are waiting on results from the crime lab to determine the validity of charges.

She was hired in June 2013 by the school district as a middle school social studies teacher.
