NEW PHILADELPHIA -- The Run for Home Road Runners Club and The Allied Machine and Engineering Tuscarawas Valley Challenge Series will host a two-mile road race just for kids Saturday, May 17 at the Schoenbrunn State Memorial in New Philadelphia.
The race is free and is open to children age 14 and under.
"This event is a one more way we can encourage youth fitness and activity," said Run for Home Committee president Matt Ritzert.
The two-mile race will start and finish at the Schoenbrunn State Memorial parking lot. Race time is 10 a.m. Children who participated in the Kids Running for Home program at the Union Hospital Run for Home and also participate in the Schoenbrunn Kids Runs will be entered into a drawing for a variety of additional gifts.
"We think the two-mile kids run this Saturday is a great way to follow-up participation in the Run for Home last month," Ritzert explained.
The Run for Home Road Runners Club began the Kids Running for Home program last year. The program encourages physical fitness by giving school running clubs, church groups, and other youth organizations a special group registration rate for participation in the Union Hospital Run for Home one-mile run or five mile walk. This year about 40 young runners and walkers participated in the program.
