A community blood drive is set for Wednesday, May 21 from 1 to 6 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Newcomerstown. Call 1-800-REDCROSS for an appointment.

Bake sale

A bake sale is set for Sunday, May 18 at Baker's IGA starting at 10 a.m. to fund the Rising Sun Blackbelt Academy's trip to national competition in Atlantic City, N.J., on May 24. The winners will move on to TEAM USA trials.


barbecue set

A chicken barbecue by Montel Collins is set for Saturday, May 17 at 1 p.m. in the Touraine Club, Newcomerstown, parking lot.

The barbecue will benefit the Save Our Pool fund. The meal includes half a chicken, macaroni salad, baked beans and roll for $8. The chicken barbecue is sponsored by Matt Lenzo of the Touraine Club. For tickets, call Melba Guy at 498-4683.

Breakfast set

Breakfast will be served at the Kimbolton United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 17 from 8 to 11 a.m. The menu includes bacon, sausage patties, eggs, sausage gravy and biscuits, toast, juice, coffee, fruit and sweets.

Senior center open house

The Newcomerstown Senior Center will be celebrating Newcomerstown's bicentennial on Friday, May 16 with an open house planned at the senior center on Bridge Street, Newcomerstown.

The event is for those 55 years of age or older.

Events include: Music at 10:45 a.m. (and will resume after lunch), lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., cake walk from 12:15 to 1 p.m. and Euchre tournament from 1 to 3 p.m.

Bricks available

Save Our Pool brick sales are now available.

Bricks, 4-inches by 8-inches, with laser engraving will be placed around the walkway of the Cy Young Pool, Newcomerstown.

Bricks are $40 each. Lettering can be three lines with 20 characters per line (punctuation and spaces count as a character).

Retirement luncheon

Kurz-Kasch will have its monthly retirement luncheon on Wednesday, May 14 at 11:30 a.m. at April's Country Kitch'n in Newcomerstown.

Chicken barbecue planned

Fry's Valley Moravian Church will have a chicken barbecue on Saturday, May 17 from 4 to 7 p.m.

The meal includes half a chicken, baked beans, macaroni salad, roll, beverage and homemade dessert.

The meal costs $8 for adults and $4 for children.

The church is located at 594 Fry's Valley Road SW, New Philadelphia. Seating will be available inside the fellowship hall or pavilion.

Beard growing contest winners

On Saturday, June 28, during Cy Young Days in Newcomerstown, the judges will announce the winners of the beard growing contest. Judging will begin at 4 p.m.

'Old tyme' baseball game set

On Sunday, June 29, during Cy Young Days in Newcomerstown, there will be an "old tyme" baseball game at the Cy Young Memorial Park which will begin at 1 p.m.

TOPS meets on Tuesdays

Sonshine Boxes drop-off

Bob Pell's Nationwide Insurance office, located at 117 N. Bridge St., Newcomerstown, is a new collection site for items to be sent to soldiers serving our country. Items may still be donated at Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, also in Newcomerstown. Sonshine Boxes consist of anything a soldier might need such as personal hygiene items, games, movies, etc.
