CANTON -- More than 20 T-County Scampers participated in the Inaugural Hall of Fame Marathon in Canton on Sunday, April 27. The T-County Scamper Facebook group was created in 2009 by J.T. Ansel, a local runner, who wanted a safe place to share runs, pains, and accomplishments.
"In the end, it is a fun way to keep everyone motivated and informed of their running accomplishments. If you live in T-County and you can scamper, this is the group for you."
What started out as a cool 38 degree day, ended with a big bang! Hundreds of miles and several months of training lead these great athletes to the finish line. Three Scampers were on this great journey for the very first time.
Shana Sclater of Dover and Kenneth McCracken of Strasburg finished the marathon in 3:52:58 and 4:10:45 respectively. Amy Smith of Canton finished her first half marathon in 3:27:20.
Matt Russell of Dover finished the marathon in 3:39:36 for a personal record after completing three half marathons within 36 only two weeks prior.
"What great personal accomplishments by our local runners," said Shana Sclater of Dover. "This was very personal for me. After being injured for 18 months, I came back stronger than ever and with a whole new set of goals for myself. Most people set a goal just to finish their first marathon - not me - my vision, dreams, and goals were way bigger!"
