DENNISON -- The HARCATUS Tri-County Family Support HEAP Summer Cooling Program is opening on July 1 and will close on Aug. 31.
This summer, only income-eligible households with a member who has a medical condition certified by a licensed physician or registered nurse practitioner, or those who are 60 years of age or older and income eligible are qualified to apply for assistance.
Income eligibility will be based on 175 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, which starts with a maximum of $20,598 gross income for a one-person household during the past 12 months; add $7,280 for each additional household member.
All applicants are required to provide documentation of total gross household income for either the three months or 12 months prior to the date of application, Social Security cards, and proof of United States Citizenship (birth certificate) or Alien Status.
Proof of how the home is heated and the most recent electric bill must be supplied.
All household members who are 18 years of age or older that do not have an income must provide something in writing that explains their situation and contains their signature and date. Written verification must be submitted for anyone living in the household who is claiming permanent and total disability or an illness that is aggravated by extreme heat.
For information or to schedule an appointment, call the HARCATUS Family Support Appointment Hotline at 1-855-806-9650. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; closed from noon to 1 p.m. for lunch, Monday through Friday. Walk-ins are welcome and are seen only as time permits.
Those persons who are physically unable to come to the office for an appointment, those who work during the day, and those who have broken central air systems will need to contact the Family Support Center in their area by calling 330-343-8770.
