A Newcomerstown native has taken over the helm at the Newcomerstown Public Library as its new director.
Cody Addy, a 2003 graduate of Newcomerstown High School and library assistant employee since 2008, was named the director on July 1 as former director Greg Romer stepped down earlier this year.
"We're glad Cody is our new director for the Newcomerstown Public Library," said Ray Booth, president of the library board of trustees. "Cody has always been a conscientious and steady influence at the library and we look forward to its growth under his leadership. He, and his family, have invested in being part of the Newcomerstown community and he truly wants great things to happen for the library and for the community as a whole."
Addy is currently enrolled at Kent State University in dual masters programs in library science and education. He is expected to graduate in the spring of 2017.
Addy said he's been very busy since taking over. He's been re-vamping library polices and forms. His focus will switch to promoting the renewal of a 2.5-mill library levy that will be on the November ballot, preparing for a state audit and working with other directors and county officials in allocating county funds for library operations.
"(Overall) things seem to be running smoothly with the group we have now," Addy said about the staff at the library.
And circulation continues to increase at the library too. Addy said items on loan have increased by 448 over this time last year.
"We're always getting new movies and other items," Addy said.
Movies and video games (which are now available) can be rented for up to seven days, best-selling books are at the library, and e-books are available through the library's web page at no charge.
As far as future plans, he said the children's department will be re-vamped and more appealing to children. He said funds from the general operating expenses' levy will be used for the renovation.
He invites everyone to stop by and say "Hello," and welcomes the public to attend the library Board of Trustees' meeting (which is the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Newcomerstown Library Annex). The library is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and closed Sunday.
Overall, Addy said, "Come see us!"
