Guidance News: PSAT/NMSQT testing in October

Interested juniors may take the preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 8 a.m.The PSAT/NMSQT:

Measures the reading, math, and writing skills needed for college

The first step for juniors in entering the National Merit Scholarship competitions

Provides practice for the upcoming ACT, SAT, and other college entrance exams

Juniors may register for the PSAT in the Guidance Office from September 21 - October 2nd. College-bound sophomores are encouraged to register as space allows. However, only the junior year scores will count in competition for National Merit recognition.

Senior Night

There will be a senior informational night for all senior students and their parents on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Information will be provided about scholarships, how to apply to college, financial aid, graduation requirements, and honors diploma requirements. All are encouraged to attend.

ACT test date

Registration deadline: Oct. 24, Sept. 18, Dec. 12, Nov. 6, Feb. 6, Jan. 8, April 9, March 4, June 11, and May 6.

The cost of the ACT is $39.50 without the writing and $56.50 with the writing portion.

September 25 - No School

There will be no school on Friday, Sept. 25 for teacher in-service.

Homecoming events

Homecoming festivities will begin on Thursday, Oct. 15 with the district pep rally at 1:30 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. Also, on Thursday, Oct. 15, we will be holding the annual homecoming parade. Line-up for the parade will begin at 3:30 p.m. followed by the parade at 4 p.m. Friday will be the homecoming game against Sandy Valley with kickoff slated for 7 p.m. The queen will be announced before the game. Festivities will conclude on Saturday, Oct. 17 with the homecoming dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Students wishing to bring an outside guest must obtain the proper paperwork from the office.

October 16 - No School

There will be no school on Friday, Oct. 1 for teacher in-service.

Nine week assessments

Assessments for the first nine week grading period will be held on Oct. 22 and 23. Periods 1, 3, 7, and 9 will test on Thursday, Oct. 22, and period 2, 4, 5 or 6, and 8 will test on Friday, Oct. 23.

Friday, October 23

The end of the first nine week grading period will be Friday, Oct. 23. Students need to make sure that all assignments and assessments are completed by this date.

Ohio Graduation Test

We will be administering the Ohio Graduation Test to junior and senior students who still need to pass a portion of the test on Oct. 26-30. Monday will be Reading, Math on Tuesday, Writing on Wednesday, Science on Thursday, and Social Studies on Friday.

Graduation and Baccalaureate

Even though it is only September, we want to notify seniors of the dates and times of graduation and baccalaureate so they can plan accordingly. Graduation will be held on Sunday, May 22 at 4:30 p.m. at Lee Stadium. If there is inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved inside to the high school gym. Baccalaureate will be held on Sunday, May 15 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
