DOVER -- The hills and valleys of the Tuscarawas Valley have become the perfect setting for Dr. Marcus C. Cox, M.D., a general surgeon who recently has joined the practice of UPS Regional Surgical Specialists located on the campus of Union Hospital.

"I love the countryside and the hills, they are beautiful," said Cox, who is a member of the medical staff at Union Hospital. "I wanted to be in a comfortable place to live and raise my family."

That comfort was obvious to Cox, who has visited the area numerous times in the past because his wife Julie is a native of the area and a graduate of Dover High School.

The couple have five children: Bryce, 20; Willow, 14; Eli, 12; Caleb, 9; and Jonah, 6.

A native of South Florida, Dr. Cox spent the past several years in private practice in the Lima Memorial Health System in the Lima region.

He is now in practice at UPS Regional Surgical Specialists with Drs. Robert M. Levitt and Joseph N. Zemis. Dr. Cox is accepting new patients and can be contacted at UPS Regional Surgical Specialists at 330-343-3433.

Dr. Cox earned his medical degree at the University of North Carolina's School of Medicine, served residencies at the Baylor College of Medicine and Akron City Hospital, and completed a fellowship at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at Houston. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Cox also has received specialized training in laparoscopic surgical techniques for hernia and colon surgery. He said working with patients and being able to inform them that they are "cured" is a wonderful feeling for him and the surgical team.

"These are great moments in your own life that affirm why you do what you do," Dr. Cox said. "That's why I love surgery and helping cure people of their illnesses."
