Students in Todd Bonvechio's Masonry class participated in the seventh annual Holiday Masonry Skills Competition sponsored by the Ohio-Kentucky Administrative District Council for Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers. Held at Buchtel Community Learning Center, the event included seven schools throughout Ohio that participated. Students were divided into categories according to grade level. Buckeye had two juniors participating who took first and second place in the junior division. Ryan Daberko of New Philadelphia took first place, and Blaze Fox-Quillen of Dover came in second. Bob Alsept, superintendent of Buckeye Career Center, said, "We feel that competitions like this give our students and instructors an opportunity to measure our progress against our peers. This reassures us that Buckeye Career Center is preparing our students to be successful. We are very proud of Mr. Bonvechio and his students!" Both students were awarded a professional grade level for placing in the event. Pictured are: Blaze Fox-Quillen and Ryan Daberko in BCC's masonry lab with their new levels.
