Tuscarawas Valley Heritage Inc. approved a $500 grant that sixth grade Science teacher Mrs. Supers wrote in conjunction with Mrs. Decaminada, sixth grade Intervention Specialist, that was used to take the sixth grade students to Kent State PAC on Feb. 3. Because of this grant, sixth grade science students were able to experience a hands on learning experience outside of their normal surroundings of Newcomerstown Middle School by attending the ACTS series Dr. Insecta event at the Kent State Performing Arts Center. Students were able to get close up to insect life in the bug world, and learn first hand about entomology, which could possibly lead to a future field of study for some of them. The students got to participate in this activity that is beneficial to the content standards that are being taught in the classroom. This event will coordinate with the life science curriculum in the spring at NMS. Students will participate in activities in the classroom throughout the months of March, April and May.
