DOVER -- Fundraising events conducted by the Union Hospital Auxiliary over the past year have enabled its members to donate $203,000 to Union Hospital. The gift was made today at the annual luncheon meeting attended by Auxiliary members and the leadership of Union Hospital at the Monarch Center in Dover.
"The people this area are an extremely caring, giving community," Bruce James, hospital president and CEO told the Auxiliary gathering. "I am amazed year in and year out how hard the Auxiliary members work. You are an awesome group, very dedicated, and I can't say thank you enough."
Susan Mosher, Auxiliary president, introduced each project committee chairperson, who in turn introduced their committee members. Also honored were the People's Choice Award winners from the Chocolate Love A'fair and the Christmas Tree Festival at Warther Carvings. Mosher also thanked Kasey Rippel of New Philadelphia who recently completed two years as Auxiliary president.
"It is extremely gratifying for all of us to be surrounded by the entire Auxiliary family," Mosher said. "Each member brings great talent, pride and dedication to the group."
Mosher announced that the $203,000 donated to the hospital this year has been designated for the purchase of surgical equipment, patient monitors, vascular ultrasound, vein illuminators, and improvements to visitor seating.
This year's gift to the hospital was presented by Mosher and Lorrie Hawk, Auxiliary treasurer, to James Knisely, chairman of the UH Board of Trustees. Since its formation in 1949, the Union Hospital Auxiliary has donated more than $3.7 million to the hospital for the purchase of patient care equipment and facility improvements.
"Union Hospital is a real community asset and your efforts on behalf of the hospital are greatly appreciated," Knisely said. "Your work as Auxiliary members helps Union Hospital fulfill its mission."
Auxiliary fund-raising events held annually include the Chocolate Love A'fair, Tea in the Garden, Hanging Basket Sale, Rummage Sale, Christmas Tree Festival, Poinsettia Sale, and Vera Bradley Bingo. The Auxiliary also operates the Corner Shop Gift Shop located in the hospital's main lobby.
