Newcomerstown Exempted Village Board of Education member Kenneth R. "Kenny" Shaw Jr. has resigned from his position, as well as school board president.

School Superintendent Jeff Staggs said his resignation was effective immediately. The board met in executive session April 26 to approve the resignation.

Staggs said Shaw's reason for his resignation was that he felt he couldn't devote enough time due to his growing business.

Shaw was elected in 2013 to serve on the school board when seven other candidates were vying for three seats.

Meanwhile, the board elected member Randy Addy as the new board president and Dave Archer as vice president.

In terms of filling Shaw's vacancy, the board will follow procedures according to the vacancy, Staggs said.
