WEST LAFAYETTE -- Following a third reading given on Monday night (March 28), village council approved the new pay scale for the Village of West Lafayette. Per ordinance No. 2016-07, the new pay scale is as follows: (pay scale is based on years of experience)

Police Department:

/ Patrolman, Class II, Full Time, Hourly: $13.12 (less than 1 year), $13.71 (1-5 years), $14.33 (5-10 years), $14.97 (10-15 years), $15.65 (more than 15 years).

/ Patrolman, Class I, Part Time, Hourly: $12.

/ Patrolman (Probationary Period), Hourly $11.

/ Chief of Police, Salary: $40,000 (less than 1 year), $41,000 (1-5 years), $42,025 (5-10 years), $43,075.63 (10-15 years), $44,152.52 (more than 15 years).

Water/ Waste Water:

/ Operator, Class III, Hourly: $20.64 (less than 1 year), $21.57 (1-5 years), $22.54 (5-10 years), $23.55 (10-15 years), $24.61 (more than 15 years).

/ Operator, Class II, Hourly: $19.00 (less than 1 year), $19.86 (1-5 years), $20.75, $21.68 (10-15 years), $22.66 (more than 15 years).

/ Operator, Class I, Hourly: $17.50 (less than 1 year), $18.29 (1-5 years), $19.11 (5-10 years), $19.97 (10-15 years), $20.87 (more than 15 years).

/ Operator, Hourly: $17.00 (less than 1 year), $17.77 (1-5 years), $18.56 (5 years, or more).

/ Labor (Labor Pool), Hourly: $10.50

/ Village Administrator, Full Time, Salary: $49,800

/ Fiscal Officer, Salary: $32,000 (less than year), $33,558.50 (1-5 years), $34,397.46 (5-10 years), $35,257.40 (10-15 years), $36,138.83 (more than 15 years).

/ Mayor, Salary: $5,500

/ Council, Salary: $2,004

Information from the same ordinance included:

/ Council members missing scheduled committee meetings shall have their compensation reduced by $83.50 for every two unexcused absences. The committee chairperson is responsible for granting the excused absence, and reporting unexcused absences to the Fiscal Officer.

/ Council members will be paid $10.00 for each special meeting that is attended.

/ For non-exempt employees over-time shall be paid at the rate of one and one half times the regular per hour rate:

/ Hours in excess of forty hours worked within a scheduled pay week.

/ Hours in excess of eight hours worked in a scheduled work day.

/ Any village employee scheduled to work on a holiday shall receive 1.5 times their regular rate in addition to their regular holiday pay.

/ If an employee is called back to work after leaving the work place at the completion of their normal scheduled shift. Over-time pay will stop at the beginning of the normal Scheduled shift, or when the employee leaves the work place when the task is completed.

/ There shall be no compounding of over-time hours.

/ Employee requested changes to their normal scheduled shift shall not create any over-time pay. This does not apply to an employee using vacation, personal leave, or sick time pay.

/ Un-worked holidays will be considered as time worked for the purpose of computing over-time when the holiday occurs on a regular scheduled work day. Un-worked holidays will not be considered as time worked for the purpose of computing over-time when the holiday occurs on regular scheduled day off.

/ For the purpose of computing over-time hours: vacation, personal leave, death of a family member, or sick time will be considered as time worked.

/ If an employee has paid time off (vacation, personal, death in the family, or sick leave) it must be used before an employee can request no pay.

/ The rate of compensation for the Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, and bonus payment of volunteer fire fighter officers and firemen shall be as follows:

/ Fire Chief, $2000 per year, to be paid annually.

/ Assistant Fire Chief, $1,000 per year, plus $10 per run, to be paid annually.

/ Volunteer Firemen, $10.00 per run, paid annually.

/ The fire run payment is not applicable to the Fire Chief position.

/ The bonus payment for the purpose of the ordinance shall be defined as compensation for services rendered in reporting to emergency calls. The bonus payment is paid only when the employee reports to and arrives at the fire station.

/ A village employee may serve as a volunteer fireman. A village employee may not be paid for a fire run simultaneously with his village employee pay. If the fire run occurs before end of village employee hours, the employee may be paid if the fire run lasts for any period beyond the end of the employee's regular shift.

/ Non-exempt employees in the police department working special events will be paid at a rate of 1.5 times their normal straight time rate. A special event is defined as an event whereby the village is reimbursed by a third party sponsoring the event. The Police Chief will negotiate a rate with the third party event sponsor to include all costs incurred by the village.

The ordinance is effective for Jan. 1, 2016.
