Newcomerstown Chamber of Commerce held its 96th annual awards banquet on Thursday, March 2 at the David Barber Civic Center.
The program began with social time and a welcome message by Mayor Pat Cadle, past president of the organization. Wine Tasting compliments of John Ourant and Baker's IGA.
After an invocation, guests enjoyed visiting many tables of delicious food selections provided by local businesses, that included April's Country Kitch'n, Baker's IGA, Cy Young Lanes, Damon's, Dick's Place, Terry's Pizza, and the Touraine Club.
Awards and door prizes were presented after dinner. The first award presented was the Kelly Ault Award to Vane Scott III. Other awards were presented to John Cigavic, Educator of the Year; Jeff Eggleston, Community Improvement; Lions Club, Organization of the Year, award accepted by Ron Haver; Christy Penland McMillen, Chamber Member of the Year; and Denny Ross, Hometown Hero. Two businesses were recognized with the Chief Netawatwes Award; Carey Gardner accepted the award for Union Hospital, Dover, and Mary Ellen Givens accepted the award for Coshocton Regional Medical Center. Dave Mason and Dan Loader were honored with Lifetime Achievement awards.Newcomer businesses recognized were Main Street Grill, Dirt Cheap Excavation, The Odd Box, Coshocton Driver Training School, Make It Mine Designs, and 5th Day Aqua.
The theme of the evening and of the businesses was pretty much summed up by a quote in the program by William Arthur Ward, author, educator, and motivational speaker ... "Do more than belong; participate. Do more than care; help. Do more than believe; practice. Do more than be fair; be kind. Do more than forgive; forget. Do more than dream; work."
