Date change

The January meeting of the Newcomerstown Board of Education will be 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, in the High School Conference Room.

Spelling Bee

The annual Rachel B. Stoffer Spelling Bee is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 19, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Newcomerstown Middle School. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Soup Supper

There will be a chili and oyster soup supper 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 12, at the Newcomerstown Masonic Center, 235 N. Bridge St., Newcomerstown. The "all you care to eat" meal includes salad, dessert and beverage. For adults, the cost is $8 for the oyster stew and $6.50 for chili. For children, the cost is $3 for either and pre-school children eat free. Everyone is welcome

Library events

Events coming up at the Newcomerstown Public Library include: Jan. 12; cookbook club, 1-3 p.m., Jan. 13. Every Thursday is "Toddler Time," 10:30-11 a.m. Preschool Story Time is every Friday from 10:30-11 a.m. All programs are free. For information about library programs, call 740-498-8228.

Class of 1956

The Newcomerstown High School Class of 1956 will meet Jan.11 at April’s Restaurant at noon.

Blood drive

There will be an American Red Cross blood drive from 1-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 121 S. College St. To schedule an appointment, call 1-800-Red Cross.

Kurz Kasch luncheon

A Kurz Kasch retiree luncheon will be held Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 11:30 a.m.

Class of 1958

The next luncheon for the Newcomerstown High School Class of 1958 will be at TJ’s Restaurant in Stonecreek on Thursday, Jan. 11, at 12:30 p.m.

Class of 1957

The Newcomerstown High School Class of 1957 will hold its February luncheon at Rosalee's Restaurant in Strasburg on Feb. 6 at noon.

Scholarship

The application deadline is fast approaching for several scholarships being offered by The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Tuscarawas County. Applicants must be Tuscarawas County high school seniors who are planning to attend any of The Ohio State University campuses (including ATI - Wooster) next fall. Applications are available in all area high school guidance departments and must be submitted by Friday, Jan. 19. Applicants must also attend an interview session. Last year, the alumni group awarded $19,000 to local OSU students.
