PORT WASHINGTON — Village council met recently and hired Chad Hilty of New Philadelphia as a part time patrolman. Officials said Hilty comes with great recommendations and has been in law enforcement since 2001. Hilty is replacing Patrolman Dennis Moody who resigned last November.
In other action, council:
• Reviewed the first quarter municipal income tax report with $39,642.07 received to date.
• Passed Resolution 07-2018 approving a five year contract for Bank Depository with First National Bank of Dennison
• Approved the purchase of playground equipment for Belden Park. Estimated cost is $34,000. $24,000 will be paid from the NatureWorks Grant and $10,000 will be paid from the insurance company monies received from the vandalism last fall to the park equipment. Also approved was the purchase of two bleachers at a cost of $2075.00 for the Bates T-Ball Field.
Mayor Tom Gardner issued a reminder that all winter flowers should be removed from the cemetery. Gardner also issued a reminder for all drivers in the cemetery to stay on the pavement.
The next meeting is April 17 at 7 p.m.
