NEW PHILADELPHIA — The Tuscarawas Philharmonic is ready to begin the 2018 Children’s Chorus under the direction of Laura Barkett. The chorus will rehearse weekly, September through April, with rehearsals every Monday evening from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. at the Kent State Tuscarawas Performing Arts Center. Carolyn Wallace will be accompanying.

A parent information meeting and first rehearsal will be Monday, Aug. 27, from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. Children between the ages of 7 to 14 are invited to join, with no prior registration required. This rehearsal will include a musical assessment and evaluation for each participant, but students will not need to prepare anything in advance. There is a $30 registration fee for the fall semester, with need-based scholarships available.

Concerts for the fall semester will include: the Warther’s Christmas Tree Festival on November 12; the Sugarcreek Arts Council Banquet on December 3; the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Children’s Chorus in Concert on December 9; and the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Yuletide concert on December 15.

The spring semester for the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Children’s Chorus will begin in January, and new participants may opt in at that time. Spring rehearsal and concert calendar will be announced later in the year.

The Tuscarawas Philharmonic Children’s Chorus thanked the following sponsors for making this program possible: Barbour Publishing, Inc., Dover Chemical Corporation, Park Village Assisted Living, Progressive Foam, and ProVia.
