NEW PHILADELPHIA — The Tuscarawas Philharmonic invites everyone to attend Pops in the Park, the free kick-off concert to the 2018-2019 season, at Tuscora Park on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 7 pm.

The Philharmonic will be joined by Americana-folk band Hey Mavis as the Philharmonic tips its hat to the end of summer with a selection of music, including "Festival Overture on the Star Spangled Banner" by Dudley Buck and a Beatles medley, to name just a few.

Hey Mavis was formed as part of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park artist-in-residence program. They have appeared on NPR’s Mountain Stage and Whad’ya Know?, and PBS’s Songs from the Center. Their website,, includes a long list of appearances—notably, Melissa Etheridge saw Hey Mavis perform at a benefit concert and recruited them to perform on her 2018 music cruise.

The band consists of Laurie Michelle Caner (vocals, banjo, songwriting), Eddie Caner (violin, viola profunda), Bryan Thomas (bass), and Anthony Taddeo (drummer).

In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to the New Philadelphia High School gym.

This concert is possible thanks to the generosity of contributors, including guarantors Doris and Floyd Kimble Foundation, Dover Chemical Corp., Dover-Phila Credit Union, Park Village Health Care Center, Inc., Progressive Foam Technologies, RTY, Shirley A. Wagner, and The John and Orlena Marsh Foundation; sponsors Advantage Tax Group, LLC, the City of New Philadelphia, and an anonymous sponsor; and co-sponsors First Federal Community Bank and McInturf Realty.
